‘Mongol’ the snow leopard released in Russia

Following up from yesterdays post, a Russian media report says Mongol has been released. According to AFP news service Putin had been to see Mongol in his cage. “What a beautiful little cat,” Putin, dressed in a Russian hat and a quilted jacket marked with the Russian eagle and the initials V.V. Putin, whispered as he stared at the snow leopard.

Reports in the snow leopard research community say Mongol spent hours battering himself against the cage to the point where his nose was bloodied. Here are photos of Mongol in the cage he was kept in for the last week. An absoloute disgrace!

If he’s OK is hard to say. Certainly reports say he spent days battering himself against the cage to the point of bloodying his face! Will followup if I get more news.

Sorry to hear this , hopefully he will make it, seems lately we are just getting bad news about snow leopards, just read the article about killing some for ” research purposes ” , what do they want to probe or learn with this ? just awful, as humans we need to respect each animal in our planet ¡¡¡¡

I try to keep an eye on the news in Russian – so far nothing since March 21 after release and no data from the collar shown/reported. In contact with Jan Castner and will finalise transcript of video soon.
